One amongst the first few factories to set up, at the now populous SEEPZ, Fine Jewellery has maintained a strong position in export jewellery business for over 20 years now- manufacturing exquisite pieces for clients in countries spanning the globe. In India, their brand Nirvana, though young, has gained a fair share of recognition as well. The students of the Indian Institute of Jewellery were given a comprehensive tour of the company on the 1st of December, 2009 which gave them clarity on how the course they’re studying at present is relevant to the work they are aspiring to do.

Mr. Kiran Chandwani, an ex-IIJ instructor, now works at Fine Jewellery as a consultant in the Research and Development department. He was vital in facilitating this field visit, and wholeheartedly lent his support. Students were taken right from the beginning of the manufacturing process to the end; Manual Design ? Computer-Aided Design? Computer-Aided Manufacturing? Casting? Filing? Finishing? Setting? Polishing. Additionally, students were also exposed to Fine Jewellery’s Mystere setting, a diamond setting technique which has been created and subsequently patented by the company. Mr. Ashok Gadhire, Senior Faculty , Manufacturing Dept, IIJ, found the company very professional, he remarked, “Everything was conducted in a systematic and organized way. Students were given a detailed explanation of each step of the process, which was very helpful.”

Having been through each step of the process, students were able to understand where their respective areas of study come in to play during the manufacturing process and which aspects are instrumental to success in the industry. Both the participating staff and students left the factory enriched and impressed with the premises.
